6 supplements that increased my breast milk supply!

I’ve been breastfeeding since 2021!!! I even did tandem breastfeeding for one week. That was too much! When I first started this journey, I was so afraid I wouldn’t be able to breastfeed for the full year. I had friends that struggled with their milk supply so I was so anxious especially knowing I eventually had to go back to work.

When I returned to work, I went too long without pumping and developed a clogged duct. It lasted about 18 hours and I was in excruciating pain. That thing was so engorged, shiny, bumpy, and the veins were distended. I tried everything and finally found some relief. Unfortunately, some damage was done. I could barely get an ounce off the breast after that.

So the search began. I purchased everything I came across. Nothing on this list is sponsored.

1. Milky Mama’s Emergency Brownies

Delicious… however, high in calories and carbs especially when you’re trying to get back to pre-pregnancy weight. I ate one a day and didn’t see any noticeable changes in my milk supply. But so many have sworn by it. So talk to your medical provider and see if you can try it.

2. Legendairy Milk’s Liquid Gold

Loved! About 7 days of consistent use increased my milk supply by 2 ounces. This supplement has milk thistle, fennel, alfalfa, anise, shatavari which are all herbs that stimulate the growth of the mammary glands, improve milk flow, and stimulate the release of prolactin which makes the milk. It’s did everything they boasted of.

3. Mother’s Milk Tea

Now let me say this…. Consistency is key. I drink it 4 times a day every day. At my highest, I was pumping 40 ounces a day. My son is now 9 months and eating and I’m pumping about 15-20 ounces daily. there is a faint licorice taste if it bothers you, use some honey or your preferred sweetener. This tea has fenugreek in it and some women report having a decrease in their milk supply, so be vigilant.

4. Mega Food Baby & Me 2 postnatal multivitamins

I take them everyday and not only does it enrich my breast milk, I feel energized. I also didn’t experience the postpartum hair loss I did with my first son. So I would definitely recommend.

5. Coconut water

I drink coconut water daily as it’s an excellent source of electrolytes which hydrates you on a cellular level. It’s health fat content helps promote fattier milk. The days I skipped the coconut water, my milk was more off white and sometimes translucent depending on the time of day.

6. Body Armour Lyte

I drank this sparingly but it worked the same as the coconut water due to the electrolytes and provided extra hydration.

Before trying any supplements, I stress again, please talk to your medical doctor.

In addition to these supplements, I centered my diet around foods that increase breast milk production. If you want to hear more, comment below and I’ll get a list of foods that I ate to lump 40 ounces a day!

Until next time….
