Everyone said I would lose so much weight breastfeeding…. In my Maury voice, “ the lie detector determined that was a lie!”
In order for me to enrich my breast milk, I had to eat… see my previous article, “Foods that increased my milk supply.” Instead of losing, I actually gained weight. Now that I stopped lactating, I’ve lost over 30 lbs! I don’t think I could be any happier. Keep reading to learn more about my keto journey. But let me preface this by stating, please consult your primary care provider before making any changes to your diet or exercise regimen. Now that we got that out of the way….
I researched extensively before deciding that I was going to start a high protein, low carb lifestyle. I needed to prove to myself that I could be disciplined enough to stick to these changes and it’s been about 8 weeks and I haven’t fallen off the wagon yet.

Ketosis occurs when you cease providing carbs to your body to burn as fuel and you begin to burn fat as your main field source. This only occurs when you consume somewhere between 20 and 50 grams of carbs per day. I didn’t think it was possible, but I cut the carbs cold turkey. I increased my protein intake and did a moderate amount of fat. I know you probably heard of “dirty” keto where people binge on high fat, lots of cheeses and meats. I guess you could say, I’m doing a “clean” keto.
The first week was terrible! Not going to lie. I had to detox. Legitimately, I was going through withdrawal. I think the reason why I didn’t go through the keto flu at the same time was because I was taking in electrolytes with my gallon of water daily. It truly helped. Check out the link below:
Unfortunately, there is no “quick” way to get into ketosis. It took me about 10 days. Truly. Fast forward 2.5 months later, I’m feeling better, my clothes are fitting better, I’m almost 40 pounds down. I recently started intermittent fasting and I have so much to tell you about this experience. It definitely helped when I hit a plateau.
If you want to know more about keto like the things I ate, workouts, etc. let me know, I will get a more detailed article out.
Ta ta for now.
