If you remember, I started keto a few months back. And this was not my first attempt. But this is the first time I was honest with myself and gave it the truest attempt. I turned 35 this year, divorced with two children… the photos to celebrate my survival, were bleak. I was so uncomfortable in my body and the photos were a terrible slap back into reality. Here I was, conquering everything, so I thought, and I literally didn’t recognize myself. Anyway, I researched and despite the negative comments, I proceeded with keto. I went shopping and was determined to kick start my weight loss.
Here’s the update! Drumroll please…. I did it. I am six months out and I changed my diet and lifestyle completely. The weight started melting off. Around month three, I started working out. It was summer and I love being outdoors. So I started walking around the park about two miles from my home. I started off walking the 3.7 miles and started running intermittently. I would walk for 3 minutes and run for 2 minutes. Slowly but surely my endurance increased and I couldn’t believe it. I actually enjoyed my daily walk/runs. My sisterfriend, as I lovingly call her, also started her fitness journey and invited me to workout with her in the gym. I began using the mapmyfitness app to track my activities and I still use it as it’s so user friendly.

In addition to increasing my activity, I really focused on increasing my protein intake. Mainly lean meats like steak, chicken breast, ground turkey, salmon. I ate leafy greens with every meal. My breakfast would be egg whites with spinach or kale, onions, and garlic with a side of cottage cheese. Lunch would be some variation of a protein bowl with cauliflower rice, veggies, and my meat of the day. Dinner would be a protein and green leafy veggies. Snack? Cheese crisps, turkey sausage jerky. Dessert…. Yes please…. Plain Greek yogurt, a scoop of chocolate protein powder, and nu trail granola. Try it and tell me what you think.
I literally eat the same thing everyday. For the first month, I was starving, obsessed with what I was going to eat next and then after that. Then suddenly, the food noise stopped. The cravings stopped. My appetite started diminishing and I would have to drink my protein shakes just to keep up with my protein intake.
About four months in, I hit a small plateau and had to try something new. Intermittent fasting. This also wasn’t my first attempt. But with my new found discipline, I finally could stick to it and the pounds started dropping again. It was wonderful. I officially just hit 70 lbs down and I have about 35-40 lbs to go. But now this goal seems so attainable. When I first started, I didn’t know how I was going to do it, but I knew I HAD to. So I started telling everyone… so I had to be accountable. That was my reasoning. And I haven’t looked back.
Every time people seem me, they interview me as if I have all the answers. I do not. But I am doing what has worked for me. Speak to a medical professional, do your research, and if it makes sense for you. Try it. Let’s start a support group. I will be more than honored to be your accountability partner. Get your diet together before the New Year.
